A collaborative effort in understanding the process, importance and seemingly endless strategies of urban farming lead to the beautification of a desolate block in the Southside of Providence. As a cohort we grew our knowledge of community efforts and the impacts they have on neighborhoods as a whole, as well as developed a strong understanding of the process of public works. Through an integrative and meaningful process of community meetings, we developed a series of planters for the young gardeners of the City Garden. These planters not only gave new life to their expanding gardens, but in partnership with the Avenue Project and the Trinity Square group, our class worked together with the community to beautify an entire block with both flowers and art. Working together with these inspiring young gardeners, the final designs of planters symbolize the vibrancy of the Southside community.
